FRAMING TECHNIQUES
The Rule Of Thirds - Following the rule of thirds is very simple to do and makes the shots look a lot more professional. Cut the picture into lines, then place the picture on the intersecting lines. - The subject is placed on the vertical line - The background is placed on the horizontal line. It is important to follow the rule of thirds so that the picture/shot looks balanced, it also makes it come across as more of a professional finish. CAMERA MOVEMENT 180 Degree Rule - For the 180 degree rule you firstly need to establish where the characters are in the scene. - Draw an invisible line in between the characters -- either side of the line is a 180 degree arch. - Place the camera on the 180 degree arch either side, this is how to setup the 180 degree rule. It is important in our trailer that we use the 180 degree rule. It means that the characters are always facing the same way in the trailer, which gives it a more professional look. Video Composition Shot Composition The Framing of the shot and filling the frame within that shot to make it visually appealing. - Rule of Thirds - overlap points of interest of the shot with the intersecting lines. Head Room The distance between the top of the frame and the top of the subject is known as the head room. - Small amounts of head room makes the shot appear more professional. Look Room The distance between the subjects nose and the inter frame is what is called the Look Room in the shot. - To make the shot look better and more visually appealing, the majority of space in the shot should be in front of the subject - the 'look room.' Camera Angles/Shots - Eye Level Shot = Neutral - Low Angle = power + dominance of character (antagonist) - High Angle = vulnerability + victim (protagonist) - Canted Shot = disorientated |
