One of the biggest and most important part of our research and planning task was to gather audience research. Audience research was vital to us in order to get a better understanding of what our target audience expects to see. We decided to use social networking as one of the main ways of getting audience research as social networking is very relevant to our current generation and therefore we would get a higher response rate.

This is an example of some of our feedback that we got for our audience research survey. We used this feedback to help us decide on certain elements of our trailer, for example the majority of the audience that we asked said that the trailer should take place inside, hence why we filmed most of our trailer inside an old abandoned police station.

We also used iMessage, we used iMessage as well as Whatsapp for our audience research as it allowed us to broaden who we asked the questions to. With the amount of technology used in today's age we decided to make the most of it and get as many responses as possible form our target audience. The more responses that we get the more knowledge and understanding we have of what our audience would like to see or what they expect to see.
The more questions that we asked the audience the better the understanding that we gain from what our target audience would want to see from our horror trailer. These will help us to branch ideas and the answers that we gained will help influence our ideas. |
Youtube was another digital technology that we used for our research and planning. We used YouTube to watch a vast variety of already existing horror trailers, this enabled us to gain a better understanding and broaden our knowledge on what conventions we needed to follow and what conventions we could perhaps challenge or develop. YouTube has allowed us to be creative as producers, this is because we had quick and easy access to thousands of already existing examples of real media texts.

To the right is a slideshow that gives a few examples of the type of stuff we used YouTube for: |

Photoshop was one of the software's we had used to help us with the construction of our work. This software was used for the photo manipulations of our poster and magazine. We had edited our photos by placing effects such as low-key lighting to make the image suit our target audience by making the image look like an image that you would expect to see on a horror magazine and poster.
As we did use Photoshop often in AS, we decided to carry on using this as to help manipulate our dominant images to create a hyper reality that the model was scared (Poster) but manly in the magazine. In addition, the use of Photoshop also allowed us to be more creative with our work as we were able to experiment with the different filters, finding one that suits our horror teaser best. A key example of this was with the hue and saturation effect which we also used to colorize our image but to an extent where it was realistic and not too extreme. In addition, we also used Photoshop for the creation of our title slates.

Camera & Equipment - Joe C, SeanAs we needed to film clips needed for our trailer as well as take photos of our models, we needed to use a camera that can capture images and footage at a higher quality than our phones. We were provided with these Cannon 700d Cameras which were extremely useful to use as it allowed us to capture footage at high qualities wherever we went as a group.
For taking pictures, this was extremely important that we kept taking photos that were in focus as well as having the right balance between lighting and contrast. In doing so, our products appear professional and it also allows us to be able to experiment with the photos more on Photoshop. As a result, we are able to express a hyper reality at a high quality which helps it look more realistic. |
We used LED lights in our filming stage and also in the photo shoots for our magazine and poster front covers. The LED lights allowed us to be in control of the type of lighting on each shot we wanted, for example in the majority of our trailer the method of lighting we used was low key lighting. The LED lights allowed us to be more creative with our production as we could keep on adjusting the angle, height and brightness of the lights in order to make our final products look as professional and high standard as possible. Without the use of the LED lights our work would not have the same effect as it does and would not be effective as a horror trailer, thus meaning the lights allowed us to be more creative.
