The task was to create a storyboard for our 64 trailer, it needed to consist of all the shot types and all the frame work. This storyboard that we need to create is how the main structure of 64 will visually come together. The storyboard is one of the last steps that we do before we start the filming and the final production of our trailer, and because of this the storyboard has to be to the point. The storyboard allows us to see what shots and scenes are necessary and how long each show should last, in order to create the best possible teaser trailer.
In the storyboard, there are a lot of stock horror shots. We need to include these in order for our teaser trailer to be a horror trailer. Some of these stock shots are evident in our story board: the Close up on the protagonists face, the Close up on the blood on the table etc.
In our storyboard we have left the identity of the antagonist unclear and as a mystery. This is key to a successful horror trailer, as it plays on the audiences intellectual pleasure. Also the whole point of a teaser trailer is that it keeps the audience guessing, and doesn't give too much of the film away in terms of plot and characters. This is why we cut the storyboard short on a cliffhanger.
Each of our shots has a time space of 3-8 seconds. This allows us to include lots of cuts and montages (especially towards the end of the trailer.) This still leaves us enough time space to add blank screens with text on them, for multiple reasons: To promotes our production company, and also build suspense.
Animatic
The animatic was created using Final Cut Pro and it was made up of all the shots from the storyboard put into a video. The shots in the animatic are all the correct length of how long the shots would last in the trailer. A picture was taken of each individual shot from the storyboard and then uploaded onto final cut, the shots were then put in order which allowed us to start putting different sounds and backing tracks on it where they suited best. Once we had put them in order, we added the text in between the shots. It was important that we used the text from the mood board and from the feedback that we got back from our audience research.
